Derumir, 'the Red', is one of the seven primeval Dragons created by the Wayfarers to watch over the world. His bright red scales and fiery aura make him a symbol of elemental power.
He only appears in times of extreme need, when the very foundations of Tirakan are threatened, and his appearance is rarely a blessing to mortals. Wherever he goes, fire follows as a sign of his inseparable connection to the volcanic and chaotic forces of the world. His influence is usually indirect, but noticeable in the areas where he appears. He prefers to be near seething volcanoes and primordial lava flows, and his presence can transform entire landscapes. It is said that he can speak through a volcano's eruption or move through fiery gusts of air without ever being noticed by mere mortals. Unlike his siblings, Balance and Darkness, Derumir is associated with both destruction and renewal. There is a raw, unpredictable energy to his actions that only he seems to understand.
Among mortals, Derumir has no fixed place in their prayers or stories. To most, he is a walking catastrophe, a being that knows neither pity nor enmity, but serves only change. His appearance is often interpreted as a warning of profound change, and his trail leaves ruins as well as fertile ground. Derumir is no judge, no protector, no avenger - he is the unstoppable force of fire that cleanses, destroys and makes way for new things.
