Oliver Nesselrode was born in Paderborn in 1660. His father fought in the Thirty Years’ War and returned home wounded. Despite reservations, Oliver joined the Imperial Guard, but was later dishonorably discharged.

While traveling, he met Jérôme Dutrout in Paris. In the course of the events surrounding Département V, he was persuaded by Jérôme to join the organization.
